April 13th Rhyl (W) 42 - 7

Wrexham's secured a 42 - 7victory with tries from Ben Jones, Ricky Davies, Owen Weston and Ben Martin. Tom Davies and Ricky Davies shared the conversions. Wrexham played their best rugby of the season by far,  passing before contact and creating space for the quick players out wide. The improved attacking play was backed up by a much stronger defensive effort which limited Rhyl to a single first half try. Strong tackling, rucking and mauling from Ricky Davies, Ben Martin and Jack Jones was backed up by another fine defensive effort from Man of the Match Ben Jones.

Feb 17th Oswestry (L)   9 - 3

The boys played 4  - 10 minute quarters to ensure all players made an appearance. Wrexham eventually lost 9 tries to 3 despite being 6 tries down after the first 2 quarters. Oswestry dominated the first 20 minutes with some aggressive forward play and good handling and running from their backs. Wrexham didn't really compete physically and poor tackling and lack of competition at the breakdown let Oswestry run up a commanding lead. The second 20 minutes saw a dramatic improvement in every aspect of the Wrexham play. A more aggressive attitude with better pressure and tackling lead to a more even period of the game. Wrexham scored 3 tries with one each from Ricky Davies and Rhys Jenkins. Michael Barnes scored his first try for the team to cap fine personal performance. Ben Jones was once again Man of the Match for his sustained work rate and tackle count.

Jan 27th Llandudno (L)   9 - 1

(W)  5 - 0

Playing the stronger Llandudno A team Wrexham lost nine tries to one. Despite conceding so many tries Wrexham were competitive for long periods of the game and challenged the Llandudno boys in breakdowns and tackle areas. Llandudno possessed the more skilful players and passed the ball around, making better use of the possession they had secured and ran in their nine tries. Wrexham stuck to the task in hand and kept putting the tackles in until the final whistle.

In the game against the Llandudno B team Wrexham maintained the high tackle count of the first game and with more possession coming their way scored a number of good tries. Owen Weston scored two fine individual tries whilst Tom Davies scored one and set up another after good passing movements. Man of the Match Ricky Davies scored again to keep his season's try total ticking along and along with Rhys Jenkins and Ben Jones put in some hard hitting tackles in both games. Conversions were introduced in this game for the first time this season with a number of the boys trying the kicks. All kicks were successful.

Despite losing the first game the overall quality and commitment shown by the team was excellent and, if this level can be maintained, should bode well for the remaining games.

Nov 18th Mold (H) (L)   8 - 2

(D)  2 - 2

Wrexham Under 10s played two games against Mold on Sunday 18 November. Wrexham lost the first game eight tries to two but managed a creditable two all draw in the second game. A slow start has been a feature of most of the games this season and Wrexham yet again started slowly and ended the first period five tries to nil down. Poor tackling and Mold's better organisation generated openings which were duly exploited. In a more competitive second half Wrexham managed one try but despite upping the pressure still let in another three tries.

In the second game a much improved team performance saw Wrexham set up a number of powerful driving mauls which tied in the Mold forwards. Good handling led to the ball being moved across the pitch opening up gaps for the Wrexham Runners. Mold always looked dangerous when they had the ball in hand and deservedly scored two tries. The much more competitive second game ended two tries a piece.

Wrexham scorers were Ben Martin with two, Ben Jones and Rhys Jenkins with one a piece. The Man of the Match award was shared between Ben Martin, who put in a series of tackles as well as scoring and Tyler Roberts who tackled excellently and was at the heart of most of the rucks and mauls in both games.

Nov. 11th New Brighton (A)
Nov 4th Bala (A) (L) 9 -1

Wrexham were let down in the first half by very poor tackling with a bigger Bala team running in 6 tries. Wrexham were unable to move the ball away from any breakdown areas which resulted in the powerful Bala team preventing any attacking moves developing. Poor handling also let Wrexham down at critical times.

Playing with a slight slope in the second half a more determined approach saw the tackle count rise and the second period proved a much more competitive affair. In an disappointing overall performance debutante Josh Evans stood out with by far the highest tackle count and shared the Man of the Match award with Ricky Davies who, as well as running strongly, was one of the few players who look to pass before contact.

Oct 21st Oswestry (H)
Oct 7th Rhyl (A) (L) 4 -3

Wrexham Under 10s played their first game of the season yesterday away at Rhyl. Wrexham were unlucky to lose this close game, eventually conceding a break away try in the last seconds of the game. A number of boys made their debuts for the club with Owen Weston and Luke Filer both having some good runs and putting in telling tackles and Sami Oussaifi and Tyler Roberts working well in the forwards.  Fly half Jacob Hughes managed to feed his backs on the few occasions clean ball came his way with James Baldwin in the centre crossing the gain line as Wrexham attacked up hill.  Rhyl ended the first half   2 tries to nil up. However, with the advantage of a slight slope in the second half,  Wrexham cranked up the pressure on the Rhyl line with sniping runs from scrum half Rhys Jenkins feeding try scorers Ben Martin,  Ricky Davies and Jacob Hughes. In an exciting last few minutes Rhyl fought their way back into the game eventually scoring with the last play of the game.
