April 26th   Anglo/Welsh Tournament CHAMPIONS

Wrexham under 10`s had an outstanding Anglo Welsh tournament coming out under 10`s 'CHAMPIONS' following a pulsating final. In the pool stages the boys first faced Mold but trys from Ethan-Rhys Williams (2) Armani Roberts and Blake Turner saw the team win 26 - 0 (conversions Williams and Roberts). Next up was Nant Conwy in a very close encounter. Wrexham went behind 7- 0. Outstanding tackling and running from Blake Turner helped hold Nant at bay and the boys kept their heads up managing to turn it around coming out eventual winners 14 -7, tries and conversions from Williams and Roberts. In the semi-final Colwyn Bay were the opponents and in a tough game Wrexham came out eventual winners 28 - 0 scorers Roberts (2), Williams and Ryan Taylor scoring a terrific try (conversions Williams and Roberts).

And so into the final against a superb Ruthin team. This was an encounter that had everything and the tension mounted throughout. Roberts scored a Wrexham try (converted by Williams) but Ruthin struck back equaling the scores and the final was on a knife edge. Turner and Roberts continued to make the hard yards. Neither team could make the break through with Wrexham setting off numerous attacks but resolute Ruthin defence keeping them at bay. At the final whistle the scores remained 7 - 7 and extra time began. Wrexham scored a try midway through the first half  and the team then had to game manage the time remaining. With the score at 14 - 7 to Wrexham the final whistle went to the delight of the boys (Roberts scoring and converting both trys) - a great game with neutral spectators commenting on a cracking game played by both teams in a great sportsmanship manner. Well done all the squad !

Mar. 8th Ruthin (H) (W) 35 - 0

Wrexhams under 10`s first team wrapped up the season unbeaten with two fine wins away to Ruthin. The first game saw excellent Wrexham's tackling keep out a strong Ruthin team who played with great determination throughout. Both Armani Roberts and Blake Turner made some hard yards and scrum half Cameron Allen made some darting runs to keep Ruthin pegged back. The home team constantly kept Wrexham on their toes with some great hands and attacking skills. Capt Ethan-Rhys Williams had a stormer winning Man of the Match with some great runs and aggressive tacking. Trys from Roberts (3),  Turner and Allen saw the boys come out 35 - 0 winners with conversions coming from Roberts and Williams. The second game was equally hard fought with Wrexham's Ryan Taylor and Nathan Prothero playing exceptionally well. Capt Blake Turner added to his earlier try with Roberts adding two more and a fine individual effort from the ever reliable George Morris sealing the game. Man of the match was deservedly won by Roberts for his strong running and terrific effort throughout. With conversions from Roberts and Williams the final score ended 26 - 7 to Wrexham.

Mar. 8th Ruthin (H) (W) 6 - 2

Wrexham under 10`s entertaining Ruthin at home had to keep their minds focused throughout to keep an excellent Ruthin team at bay. Home Capt Ethan-Rhys Williams saw Armani Roberts (3), Cameron Allen (2) and Nathan Prothero go over with the boys winning 6 tries to 2. Fine tackling earned the Man of the Match award for Ryan Taylor. The second game was a much closer affair with fine Ruthin gaining in confidence as the game ran on. An early Armani Roberts try in the first half was the only score of the game. Capt Blake Turner showed terrific strength holding the ball up a number of times until support arrived and some telling runs by Roberts and Rhys Robinson  (Man of the Match) kept the visitors at bay

Mar. 1st Nant Conwy (A) (W) 6 - 2

Wrexham’s under 10`s knew it was going to be a tough physical game away at Nant Conwy and when Nant scored the opening try the boys had to dig deep. Tackling was the order of the day and Wrexham just about edged it. Some great runs from Man of the Match Josh Hallem eased the pressure as the boys found their stride. Outstanding play from scrum half Cameron Allen mixed it up and with number 10 Ethan-Rhys Williams at his aggressive best the tide began to turn. Armani Roberts put in some thunderous tackles and Ryan Taylor tackled his heart out, to give Wrexham a fine win by 6 tries to 2. (Capt Roberts (2) with Williams, Allen, Taylor and Joe Evans completing the scoring).The second game saw a fine early try with Roberts booting the ball down field and  a great quick chase from Nathan Prothero being rewarded with a try. Other try scorers were Capt Allen, Roberts and a second from Prothero who was awarded Man of the Match for outstanding tackling.

Feb 15th Rhyl (A) (W) 9 - 0

(W) 9 - 1

Wrexhams under 10`s away to Rhyl made full use of the pitch with both forwards and backs combining well with some terrific passing out of hand. The first game saw Wrexham win 9 trys to nil with the scores coming from Capt. Armani Roberts (2), Blake Turner (2), Ethan-Rhys Williams (2), Man of the Match Cameron Allen, Ryan Taylor and Nathan Prothero. The second game saw Rhyl continue to battle hard and show some real grit never allowing the boys to relax. Wrexham's forwards carried the ball well with both Turner and Roberts outstanding. Scrum half Allen and No. 10 Williams (Capt. and Man of the Match) combined to great affect both making some telling runs and scoring a brace of tries apiece, other scorers were Turner (3), Roberts and Josh Hallem sealing two fine wins.

Feb 1st Oswestery (H) (W) 33 - 14

Wrexhams under 10`s playing at home to Oswestry managed to impose themselves on the visitors who battled throughout and kept Wrexham on their guard. An early try for Wrexham was soon answered by the visitors with both teams converting. Wrexham scored two more converted tries before half time but could not relax against an Oswestry team determind to play open rugby and play they did. The second half saw the home team add two more tries and  Oswestry reply with one of their own.  Wrexham ran out 33 - 14 winners with Capt Armani Roberts rounding off a fine day winning the Man of the Match award. Tries were scored by  Armani Roberts (2), Rhys Robinson, Ethan-Rhys Williams and Blake Turner the other scorers Roberts and Williams shared the conversions.

Jan 18th Ellesmere Port (A) (D) 1 - 1

Wrexham under 10`s first team knew it would be a tough encounter with the home team at Ellesmere Port following Wrexhams first leg home win in Oct and predictions proved correct. Both teams in very muddy conditions, kept the ball tight using their big runners to take the ball forward. The home referee kept the game flowing to the appreciation of both teams and coaches alike. Blake Turner and Armani Roberts made the hard yards and tackles and it was outstanding tackling from George Morris and his superb try that earned him the Man of  the Match Award to Captain Josh Hallems delight. Ellesmere Port however had other plans and relentless pressure saw the home team equalise just before half time. The second half saw sustained Wrexham pressure as their backs opened up but resolute Ellesmere Port defence kept the visitors out.  Neither team could make the decisive breakthrough and the second half remained scoreless resulting in a draw of one try each -- 1-1

Dec 14th Oswestry (A) (W) 6 - 0

Wrexham`s under 10`s came away with the spoils in what can only be described as two very physical games. The first game saw strong Wrexham forward play from Blake Turner and Armani Roberts allowing the Wrexham backs some excellent opportunities to run with the ball. Oswestry set off some of their big runners who gained vital yardage but strong tackles managed to keep Oswestry at bay. Captain Cameron Allen saw his team eventually win 6 - 0 with tries from Man of the Match Blake Turner (5) and Ethan-Rhys Williams. Outstanding refereeing saw the second game flow as well as the first. This saw excellent Oswestry play take the game to the visitors but tries from Turner (3) and Armani Roberts (2) saw Wrexham seal the win 5 - 2 with Captain Robert Hughes delighted that outstanding tackling earned Tyler Hayes Man of the Match

Dec 7th Caldy (A) (D) 3 - 3

Wrexhams under 10`s playing away at Caldy shared the spoils and trys 3-3 as frosty conditions necessitated turning back the clock to touch rugby.Captain Ethan-Rhys Williams saw try scorers Armani Roberts,Blake Turner and Nathan Prothero keep the visitors in the game despite excellent Caldy play and offloading.

Nov 22nd Llandudno (A)

Wrexhams under 10`s playing at Llandudno adjusted well to difficult conditions keeping the ball in hand and doing the basics well. Man of the Match & Captain Armani Roberts led from the front with some telling runs scoring two tries. Llandudno showed real grit making it difficult for the visitors but further tries from Blake Turner and Ethan-Rhys Williams sealed the game 28-7. In the second game Wrexham played Ruthin with the game almost a repeat of the first with Wrexhams scrum half Cameron Allen combining well with No 10 Williams and Turner and Roberts gaining valuable ground. Solid throws from Josh Hallem set up a good platform for the team in the lineouts. Ruthin played some great attacking rugby but could`nt quite convert this into points. Tries from Captain Blake Turner (2), who was also Man of the Match and a great individual try by Josh Hallem put Wrexham into a 21- 0 lead. The last few minutes saw a terrific team effort as Wrexham from deep in their own half launched another attack, the ball passing through the hands of seven players saw Ethan-Rhys Williams go over for the games final try with Williams`s conversion sealing a 28-0 victory.

Nov 9th Colwyn Bay (A) (W) 21 - 7 

Wrexham`s under 10`s away to Colwyn Bay had to battle hard to grind out a well deserved win that Colwyn Bay were determind to prevent. Both teams tackled and ran well with ball in hand and at half time Wrexham had edged a 7 point lead following a try and conversion by Wrexham`s Man of the Match Ethan-Rhys Williams. The second half saw Wrexhams 9 (Cameron Allen) combining well with no 10 (Williams) to set up a number of clearances from the 22 as Bay pressed numerous attacks. Wrexhams Captain Blake Turner and fellow forward Armani Roberts made some telling runs resulting in a try for Turner and another for Nathan Prothero (both converted by Williams). With the game a 21-0 Colwyn Bay continued to attack and this brought just reward with a converted try in the dying seconds of the game, concluding a 21 - 7 win for the boys --well done.

Nov 2nd ELLESMERE  P. (H) (W) 3 - 2 

Wrexham welcomed the Ellesmere Port under 10 team to Bryn Estyn. Ellesmere Port who recently won the Mold Under 10 tournament played with great commitment and skill.  The Wrexham team had a hard fought battle against Ellesmere Port with the lead changing hands a number of times.  Excellent performances from Blake Turner who lead the forwards with vigour and determination.  A brace of tries from Armani Roberts and the support of scrum half Cameron Allen ensured the win in the end with new player Ryan Taylor deservedly winning man of the match.

Oct 19th Mold Tourn.

Wrexhams under 10`s competed well in the Mold tournament.On a cold and chilly day Wrexham started slowly with a 0-0 draw against Colwyn Bay and a 2-0 loss against the eventual tournament winners Ellesmere Port. The team picked up the pace in the third game against Whitchurch but with the game ending 2-2. The team showed great determination overcoming a strong Rhyl team winning 4-0 before wrapping up their last game against Nant Conwy with a 5-1 hard fought victory. The two wins, two draws and single loss were not enough to see the team through ending second in their pool. Well done to all the lads and Cameron Allen winning our Player of the Tournament award

Oct 5th RHYL (H) (W)  7 - 1

Wrexhams under 10`s entertaining Rhyl at home had to play at their best to see off strong performances by the visitors. The first game saw Wrexham win 7-1 with trys form Armani Roberts (3), Cameron Allen, Blake Turner (Man of the Match ), Nathan Prothero and Ethan-Rhys Williams running in a fine interception try. The second game saw Wrexhams development team tussle with strong attacking play by Rhyl but trys from Roberts (2), Ryan Taylor ( Man of the Match), Turner (2) and Prothero saw the home team through

Sept 20th Llanidloes Tourn. (W)

Wrexhams under 10`s got their season off to a fine start winning the Llanidloes under 10`s Tournament. The first game saw Wrexham play Gwernyfed with Wrexham coming back from two trys behind to win 3-2 in the dying seconds with trys from Armani Roberts, Rhys Robinson and Ethan Rhys Williams.In the second game Wrexham lost narrowly 2-1 to a  well organised Denbigh team (Blake Turner Wrexhams try scorer). In their third game the team faced Ruthin who played strong attacking rugby but with Wrexham edging a 3-1 victory with trys from Blake Turner (2) and Armani Roberts. This result put the team into the final of the competition facing the unbeaten Denbigh team. In what was an entralling game, Denbigh took the lead with some great attacking play. The second half saw Wrexham equalise following sustained attacking pressure and with both teams struggling to make the decisive breakthrough the final was on an knife edge. In the last minute of the game Wrexhams Player of the Tournament Armani Roberts added to his earlier try to break free and smash over the line to seal a terrific win and a great series of teams performances by all the Wrexham squad players throughout the day. Both teams were roundly applauded and congratulated by both spectators and officials for contributing to an outstanding game of rugby played in the best spirit of the sport.
